Re: [LbNA] Yahoo Groups Changing
I think things are supposed to start being deleted 10/21. So you need to act fast. I think the moderators can request a full download of the site. I don’t know how but TJ MIch mentioned being did it for the Great Lakes group.

I noticed that at the top of this and other Yahoo Groups there is a message saying:Starting December 14, 2019 Yahoo Groups will no longer host user created content on its sites. This means after that date all photos, files, links, etc. will be gone, and probably all historical messages. If anyone has any ideas how we can copy all of it to another place accessible to letterboxers please let Choi know so we can get started before it is too late. If not, I guess just download things you want for private access. If nothing else, everyone who cares should at least look at these files one last time before another letterbox memory is gone forever 😢

Any idea where you can put the information that can be accessed by the letterbox community? If so, it would be great if we could do the same for interested regional Yahoo Groups.Silver Eagle

I've found a help page on downloading content: https://help.yahoo.com/kb/groups/download-data-privacy-dashboard-sln28671.html
Which eventually got me to a download page https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/getmydata#
It says I'll get an email when my download is ready.

i just found this link which explains what verizon is doing to the yahoo groups. from what i am reading there is a way to archive the whole group posts etc. using automated scraping tools. i might or might not could figure out how to use the programs it, but alas, only an admin can actually do it not a mod. maybe one of our more techie people can become an admin (if not already?) and come to the rescue?
lol ignore what the url title is! the article is " Yahoo Groups Is Winding Down and All Content Will Be Permanently Removed"
2 links to the programs and more info.

Re: Yahoo Groups Changing
I had a Girl Scout leader group that we used to use have in Yahoo groups, but I switched over to Group.io last year after having more and more trouble with calendar/event function in Yahoo. I've been happy with it, and they were able to migrate over all of the users, and I think files, but not the messages unfortunately. Maybe an option to look into.

Re: [LbNA] Re: Yahoo Groups Changing
Groups.io looks promising, but it requires a premium membership which is $110/year for 10GB, and I'm not sure if that is enough space. For 1TB of storage the price is $2200/year, which is pretty steep.Silver Eagle
